A search for "international driving permit" returns dozens of websites offering instant downloads of official-looking cards and certificates. Many of these are scams selling documents with zero legal value. Travelers discover this at the worst possible moment: the rental counter or the police checkpoint. Here is how to tell the difference.
Red Flags of a Fake IDP
Credit card format. Legitimate IDPs are booklet-format documents, not plastic cards. Any provider offering a laminated, credit-card-sized "international driving license" is selling a fraudulent product.
